REPORT ON DRAMA FESTIVAL PRODUCED BY JESENICE GRAMMAR SCHOOL

Introduction

This report will focus on the ninth Drama Festival that was organised at the end of February. It is written by a student of Jesenice grammar school. As a student of ITS the writer had an assignment to write a report for everyone who is interested in the festival and students’ opinions, including the writer’s.

The organisation

On Wednesday, 26 February, and Thursday, 27 February 2020, at 6.00 p. m. there was a Drama Festival in Tone Čufar’s Theatre. It is traditionally organised by Jesenice Grammar school. The festival is aimed at everyone, who enjoys watching theatre performances. It lasted for two hours. At the end of the second day, the jury selected the best script, scene, dance and actors.

Who were the performers

Each class at Jesenice grammar school could apply for Drama Festival. Then they became screenwriters, costume and scene designers, lighters, directors, dancers and actors. Everyone had a lot of to do because they had to prepare their own performance. This year there was no specific genre or theme so the audience saw different genres of theatre plays.

Performances

There were seven different theatre plays. Six of them were acted out by students, while the seventh was acted by teachers. The first day began with an adaptation of Romeo and Juliet called Roman in Julka. The comedy was put on stage by the first graders. There were two performances made by second-year students. They prepared a detective story called Sum (Suspicion) and a television show named Hodnik (Corridor). The first day ended with the play Kdaj smo zdej? (When are we now?). It was staged by the third graders. On Thursday there were two performances. Zadnja večerja (The last supper) was played by the third-year students.nd the last one, Iz devete simfonije (From ninth symphony) was performed by the fourth graders. Finally, there was a play rformed by teachers. They decided to prepare a comedy Smešna zgodba o doktorju Faustu (Comical story about doctor Faust). At the end of the second day, the jury awarded the best ones. The performance Kdaj smo zdej? (When are we now?) won the best play award.

Students’ opinion

Manydents attended Drama Festival. Some of them were performing and others were watching. The audience enjoyed watching the performances. They said that all performances were good or even excellent. Some classes have decided to prepare their performance next year. Students who prepare it once usually prepare it every year until the end of Grammar school, because it has many benefits. The classes are said to become more connected. Students learn many new things and have a lot of fun. They say that being part of Drama Festival has only one weakness – it takes a lot of time. However, all the students had the same opinion about the teacher’s performance – everyone enjoyed it. That was the best part of the festival.

Comments

This was the first time I have watched Drama Festival and it pleasantly surprised me. I think it is a really good idea to organise it. The hall was full because there were so many people who come to watch it. I was surprised that some students who had already completed Grammar school came. I think that the festival was organised well and I know how much time the classes spent to put on their performances, but everyone was satisfied in the end. I believe that Drama Festival has a lot of benefits for the organizers, the audience and the school. I think that students and teachers should continue with the festival, because the audience really enjoyed it. While I was taking photos, I saw that everyone was thrilled.
